Women’s Advocates Board of Directors join our staff in our mission to walk with victim/survivors and our community to break the cycle of domestic violence. Board members share their professional, personal, and lived experience in their service and support of our programs and of victim/survivors in our community and in our work towards achieve our vision: Using the tools of radical hospitality, advocacy, and collective action, we work toward a community free from violence, where all are safe and can live productive and healthy lives. SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Our Board members serve three year terms. Members can serve up to two consecutive terms at a time. After a one-year break in service, former members become eligible for reappointment.
The board of directors is legally and ethically responsible for all activities of the organization. To that end, it:
- Develops mission driven plans for the organization to meet short and long-range goals.
- Adopts an annual budget and provides fiscal oversight.
- Recruits, orients, and develops board members.
- Hires and evaluates the performance of the executive director.
- Evaluates its performance and overall performance of the organization in achieving the mission.
- Establishes policies for the effective management of the organization.
- Evaluates the organization’s efforts towards equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Women’s Advocates Board of Directors meets 6 times per year, on the fourth Wednesday of January, March, May, June, August, and October, in the evening. Additionally. We have a half-day retreat in November or December. Our goal is to have new Board members voted in and attending our June 26th meeting, with a special Board orientation training in July.
All board members are expected to serve on a committee, and to help in our fundraising efforts by making a financial contribution and by helping us build relationships in our community that result in a donation.

Applications will be accepted until March 22, 2024. We will begin reviewing applications on March 25, 2024. The board recruiting process will include filling out the application survey, and a zoom interview for finalists. Zoom interviews will be scheduled between 4/22/2024 & 5/20/2024. People of color and those with lived experience of DV and homelessness are strongly encouraged to apply.
